Ensuring a sustainable future for species and habitat
Working closely with species experts, local and national government, Afrigetics has developed and implemented a sustainability management plan for Pelargonium sidoides. This plan includes training and monitoring of sustainable harvesting protocols of the species and for the health of its surrounding habitat. All parts of the management plan remain dynamic and are revised as new information is acquired.
“‘The Afrigetics vision is to be a company devoted to the conservation of Southern African medicinal plants and traditional plant knowledge through sustainable trade. We are pioneering practices of regenerative wild-harvesting of pelargonium sidoides to help ensure that the species and its habitat remain intact for future generations. Our hope is that these practices will become an integral part of the community value systems, and ensure that this resource is endlessly renewable for current and future generations.
The FW accreditation is the real deal: the land benefits, the people benefit, the species benefits. The fact that we have achieved this accreditation is meaningful to me because it shows that we have lived up to the innate values of conservation and sustainability that we aspire to live by. It is a benchmark by which we can measure our progress toward achieving our sustainability vision.’
