Participate in AHPA's Tonnage Survey to Help Ensure Sustainable Harvests
The following message is published by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA):
August 22 2011 - The American Herbal Products Association's (AHPA) 2008-2010 Tonnage Survey Questionnaire is now available online. If your company is a primary raw material producer, your participation in this seventh AHPA tonnage survey is essential to helping ensure the continued sustainable harvest of North American herbs.
The Tonnage Survey is considered "a vital index of native U.S. botanical consumption," according to the Fish and Wildlife Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior, and a key resource in support of this effort.
Once again, the survey will track 27 botanical commodities, including popular supplement ingredients such as goldenseal, saw palmetto, black cohosh, slippery elm, cascara sagrada and Echinacea angustifolia.
While harvest information is already available in its components to individual companies, it is a more powerful tool when harvest amounts are tabulated to include combined total usage. By working together in this manner, AHPA and the community of companies who are in the business of herbs can gain valuable information that helps us all to plan for sustainable growth and stability. Participation in this survey demonstrates the exceptional unity of AHPA members in our desire to benefit the health of all.
If you know of a primary raw material producer who should participate in this survey and may not have done so in the past, please either notify AHPA Chief Science Officer Steven Dentali, Ph.D., via email or by phone at 310.588.1171 x103 or refer your colleague directly to a copy of this survey on AHPA's website: http://www.ahpa.org/portals/0/11_0711_2008-2010_TonnageQuestionnaire.pdf.
